Doncaster Royal Infirmary – Trauma Transfer System

Doncaster RI A&E department have just taken delivery of the Trauma Transfer System.

This unique device is widely used in Europe and is being used in more and more hospitals in the UK. The board eliminates potentially hazardous log rolls and whilst improving patient safety it reduces the risk of injury to staff due to manual handling situations.

After arriving from the ambulance, the patient is quickly and safely secured onto this padded board. The system also uses a “head cradle” which eliminates the use of cumbersome head blocks, and once in CT the patient and board is easily transferred by sliding the mattress across from the trolley on the CT table. This greatly reduces the time spent in CT, and also reduces the number of staff required. This radiolucent board is optimized for CT and X-ray and the padded gel surface ensures patient comfort just in case they have to remain on the board for an extended period. There improvements for infection control when the system is used with an optional cover, which also keeps the patient warm.
